WELCOME & OVERVIEW Welcome to ACTing Up summer camp! We are thrilled that you will be joining us. This page contains important information for both parents and students about what to expect during your experience and how to make that experience as enjoyable as possible. REGISTRATION & PAYMENT There are no registration deadlines for camp; as long as spaces are available, students may enroll in the camp. If you drop out after July 1st, you will NOT be offered a refund. This is because at that point it is very difficult to find a camper replacement so close to camp.
ATTENDANCE We ask that your child attend each day of camp. Theatre is a collaborative art form, and your child will be working with other students during the camp day to create a stage-worthy production. If your child is feeling unwell we ask that they stay home from camp until they have been fever-free for 24 hours, once they come back we ask they wear a mask for the remainder of camp.
DROP-OFF Camp begins promptly at 9:00 am. Drop off begins at 8:30 am. You will see our counselors at a table by the door so it should be very easy to find! Parents and caregivers are not allowed in the camp location for camper safety.
PICKUP Sign out begins at 3:00 pm. To pick up is at the same location as drop off. Once you sign them out, we will call your camper out to you!
LUNCH & SNACK We will have lunch and snack each day. Campers should pack their lunch each day. Snacks & Water will be provided. We ask that all students refrain from bringing peanuts, tree nuts, and fish/shellfish products to camp. For further information about our food allergy policy, please see below.
FOOD ALLERGY POLICIES You will be notified if there are specific food allergies to address within the camp in which your child is enrolled. We ask that you avoid these allergens completely because they can cause reactions through physical contact (i.e. touching an allergen, touching the hand of someone who has recently eaten an allergen, or touching an item of clothing which has contacted an allergen) or from being airborne.
MEDICAL INFORMATION & EMERGENCY CONTACTS We will use the medical information provided on your registration form as a guide to addressing any medical issues that might arise during camp. Please ensure this information is correct and complete. If you have any questions or concerns about the information you provided, please contact us at actingupsummercamp@gmail.com or contact Savannah Blackburn at 336-269-5931. If you have listed severe allergies or health problems, we may follow up with you to gain additional information about how we should address any complications that may arise. If your child has severe allergies or complex health challenges, we recommend talking with an ACT Executive Board Member before the camp begins and checking in with the an adult when you arrive to drop your child off on the first day of camp. If your child needs to take medicine during the day on a regular basis, we ask that you send it with your child with instructions for the child to follow independently of staff members.
EXPECTATIONS We seek to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all students in our summer programs. For this reason, we ask that students adhere to certain guidelines for conduct, including the following:● Be respectful of peers and counselors at all times. ● Try your best at all activities and take artistic risks. ● Ask permission before touching any other students or counselors (theatre is a physical art form, but it’s important to ask for consent before physical contact). ● Be kind to other students and include everyone in activities. Counselors or directors may also set additional expectations for specific weeks of camp based on the camp’s content. Students will also be expected to follow these guidelines. We do not expect discipline problems during camp. However, if they do occur, the policy for addressing them will be as follows: ● 1st Infraction: Verbal warning from the director ● 2nd Infraction: Ask student to sit out from activities until invited back in by one of the counselors or directors ● 3rd Infraction: Conversation with student, ACT Adult Board Member on-duty and/or counselors, and parent/guardian (describing the behavior and the teaching staff’s response to it). Severe infractions, especially those that threaten the safety of another student or counselor, will be addressed directly with guardians and risk removal from camp.
SUGGESTED CLOTHING FOR CAMP We do not have a specific dress code for students attending ACTing Up Camp, but it is highly encouraged that students wear comfortable clothing that they can move in, such as athletic pants, shorts, or leggings. We require that students wear closed-toed shoes every day of camp.
